Clinical Crossroads: Retinal Detachment Management
Presented at Colorado Retina Associates's annual Mile High Masters of Retina meeting on 2/22/2026 by retina specialists, Drs. Curtis Hagedorn, MD and Frank Siringo, MD, OD.
Description: The audience will actively guide a retinal detachment case, making critical diagnostic and management decisions at every stage of the patient’s journey. Audience choices determine the patient’s visual outcome.
Clinical Pearls- Best use cases:
- Laser: asymptomatic retinal detachments
- Pneumatic: Phakic, 1 HST (horseshoe tear) 10-2: visual acuity (VA) and vision-related quality of life (VRQL) better than Pars Plana Vitrectomy (PPV)
- Pars Plana Vitrectomy/laser gas: highest Single-Spot Slit-lamp Retinopexy (SSSR), especially pseudophakes
- Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR): 5-10% of retinal detachments. Risk factors: PPV/membrane peel/long acting gas vs oil, adjunctive buckle/Methotrexate?
