Meet Dr. Micevych

Dr. Paul Micevych is the newest member of the Colorado Retina Associates physician team, bringing both skill and compassion to the care of his retina and uveitis patients.

Dr. Micevych is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of retinal, vitreous, and ocular inflammatory (uveitis) conditions. He aims for every patient to come away with a clear understanding of their condition and the options available to them. Dr. Micevych was drawn to the field of retina, and stays motivated in it today, by the difference that preserving or restoring vision can make in a patient's independence and overall quality of life.

A Minnesota native, Dr. Micevych pursued medical and surgical education at premier institutions across the country. He completed his undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis before attending Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He then moved to California for his general surgery internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of California San Francisco. At the completion of his residency, he was awarded the prestigious Heed Fellowship for commitment to ophthalmic patient care, education, and research. His research efforts in residency earned him multiple annual resident clinical research awards. He then went on to complete his vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the renowned John A. Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, a premier center for vitreoretinal surgery and uveitis care. There, he had hands-on experience with a high volume of medical and surgical retinal cases and management of uveitic conditions, and was recognized with the Fellow of the Year Award.

Dr. Micevych offers a full spectrum of clinical and surgical retinal care, including treatment for macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, complex retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, macular hole, among many other vitreoretinal conditions. He also has specialized experience treating lens dislocation and complications after cataract surgery, and maintains an active interest in managing uveitis and inflammatory conditions of the eye.

Dr. Micevych is committed to staying on the forefront of clinical research and emerging therapies, so that his patients may have access to the most effective treatment options available. His research background includes numerous peer-reviewed publications, textbook chapters, and presentations at national meetings on a host of vitreoretinal conditions. He has also traveled internationally to provide humanitarian eye care, participating in service trips to Quito, Ecuador, and Kumasi, Ghana. While not fluent, he offers comprehensive exams in Spanish.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Micevych is settling into life in the Denver area with his wife, daughter, and their dog, a husky-shepherd. While he has lived in six different states throughout his life, he has found himself drawn to Colorado for the abundant opportunities for outdoor activities. When he's not seeing patients, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends — hiking, biking, skiing, and exploring all Colorado has to offer.
