Clinical Crossroads: Diabetic Retinopathy
Presented by Retina and Uveitis Specialists, Ashleigh Levison, MD and Andrew Zheng, MD at Colorado Retina Associates's 2026 Mile High Masters of Retina meeting. Pre-recorded talk.
Description: An interactive case on diabetic eye disease management. The audience guides decisions based on symptoms, imaging, and individual patient factors- see what happens when unexpected challenges arise.
Clinical Pearls:
- Diabetic retinopathy is divided into non-proliferative and proliferative disease (with further subdivided categories and risk stratification within each)
- Intravitreal injections and laser (PRP) are main treatments for more advanced and/or visually significant disease
- Surgery can be useful for certain advanced diabetic retinopathy complications
- Surgery is rarely performed as an emergency procedure in diabetic retinopathy (with a few exceptions)
