Colorado Retina Associates Welcomes Retina Specialist Jesse Smith, MD

Colorado Retina Associates is glad to welcome Jesse Smith, MD, a board-certified, fellowship-trained retina specialist and surgeon, to our team starting July 2026.
Dr. Smith is a Colorado native and third-generation physician who trained where he grew up. He earned his medical degree and completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Colorado, then did fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery and disease at Emory Eye Center, one of the top retina programs in the country. He spent the last nine years on faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, caring for patients, training the next generation of eye surgeons, and running clinical research on retinal disease. His teaching earned him multiple awards over those years.
He treats the full range of retinal conditions: macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, vein occlusion, macular holes, and epiretinal membranes. He has performed more than 35,000 intravitreal injections along with thousands of vitrectomies and laser treatments across UCHealth, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Denver Health, and volunteer clinics.
Dr. Smith is also an active clinical investigator, driving the future of retinal care through clinical research. He has published extensively on retinal disease and lectured at national and international conferences, and he was elected to the Retina Society, a distinction reserved for leaders in the field. He works regularly with emerging retinal therapies and new treatment technology. That means his patients often get access to options before they’re widely available.
Dr. Smith also sees Spanish-speaking patients and can discuss care in Spanish. What patients notice most is how he explains things. He takes the time to walk through a diagnosis and lay out the choices in plain language, and he treats every patient the way he’d want his own family treated. Referring optometrists and ophthalmologists across the Mountain West know him for the same thing: clear communication and steady hands on complex cases.
Dr. Smith is now scheduling appointments at our Parker, Denver–Cherry Creek, and Lafayette offices. To schedule, call or text the Colorado Retina office at 303-261-1600 OR Online schedule here.
