Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! Please bring your primary and co-or supplemental medical insurance card(s) to every visit so we can make sure your coverage is current, bill your insurance correctly, and help prevent unexpected charges or delays in your retinal care.
Ideally, yes. We will email and text (if contact info is on file) a link to complete your New Patient Paperwork online in advance before you come in for your initial appointment. It helps expedite your check-in time so we can start your appointment on time, and ensures your visit is accurate, safe, and not rushed.
A new patient visit may take up to 3 hours because we perform a thorough evaluation of your retina. This includes dilating your eyes, capturing detailed imaging, completing a comprehensive doctor exam, and reviewing results to screen for conditions and plan your care. We also perform any necessary treatment same-day if possible. This ensures the most accurate diagnosis and treatment at Colorado Retina Associates.
Sometimes. It depends on your insurance. Many plans require a referral from your referring primary doctor, general ophthalmologist or optometrist. Please check with your medical insurance carrier before your first appointment to make sure you are prepared.
Our expert retina specialists, who are highly trained ophthalmologists, treat and manage diseases of the back of the eye, most commonly age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, and detachments.
Yes, almost always. Dilation helps the doctor see your retina clearly. Your vision may be blurry and light-sensitive for a few hours. We recommend bringing a driver with you if you don't feel comfortable navigating the roads after.
It’s recommended. Dilation can last a few hours and make driving uncomfortable or unsafe for some patients.
No. Testing and imaging are painless. You may feel slight discomfort from bright lights or light pressure during the retinal exam done by your physician.
Possibly. Some conditions, such as retinal tears or macular degeneration we will suggest same-day treatment for, such as injections or laser therapy. Your physician will go over your care plan before any treatment is performed.
Most of the time. We are a medical practice, that provides essential retinal care, not similar to your regular eye exam that. We accept almost all commercial insurance carriers, Medicare and Medicare, and will bill your insurance directly after any appointment. It's however, always recommended you double check before your appointment that you are in-network. We also offer complimentary financial counseling to help you understand your coverage options.
Bring your medical insurance card(s), ID, medication list (including supplements and eye drops), and make sure your referring doctor (optometrist, general ophthalmologist or PCP) sends us your prior medical records. If you are diabetic, we also suggest bringing a snack.
