Description: A career psychiatrist and psychoanalyst discusses his personal experiences as a patient with AMD. Contrasting interactions with different providers will be described, accompanied by an in-depth exploration of the doctor-patient relationship. The implications for therapy compliance and outcome, and for provider burnout, will follow.
Bio: Benjamin Green, M.D. is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst with more than four decades of experience in private practice. After graduating from Yale College and a year at Yale Divinity School, he earned his medical degree from Emory University. Dr. Green completed residencies in both adult and child psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Science Center, and went on to direct the inpatient child psychiatric unit at The Children’s Hospital. He has advanced training in both adult and child psychoanalysis. Dr. Green serves as an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and has held the role as President of both the Colorado Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Society and the Denver Psychoanalytic Society.
In 2025, Dr. Green co-authored The Wisely Project, which examines purposeful aging through psychoanalysis, research, and the stories of 52 elders, introducing the concept of “Elder Identity Revision”; inspired by his grandfather’s vitality, his work reflects a lifelong interest in psychosocial development, attachment, and the search for meaning.
