In 2025, Colorado Retina Associates participated in 20 clinical trials shaping the future of retinal care. This session provides an update on what those trials revealed and what innovations are advancing toward clinical practice. Highlights include breakthroughs in retinal prosthetics, advances in gene and stem cell therapies, and emerging implantable drug delivery systems. This talk provides a review of transformative discoveries and a preview of what 2026 may bring for our shared patients.
CLINICAL PEARLS:
- Only approximately 10% of potential medications that undergo Phase I clinical trial testing ultimately achieve FDA approval.
- There are many barriers to patients enrolling in a clinical trial, but many of those patients that make it in one often want to do another.
- A combination of oversight, ethical principles, cutting edge science, and commitment from our patients is what makes clinical research successful.
